I was so excited to stop by the grand opening of Kent Stetson's brick and mortar/production studio today in Hope Artists Mills in Pawtucket this morning. I first came across Kent's work at a local fashion event and fell in love with his quirky prints and simplified clutch forms. Today, he sells his work in over 150 locations nation wide, stocking the shelves of smaller boutiques, museum gift stores and Norstrom stores. Impressive work for a designer based in little Rhody! Each clutch is made by hand using a high end printing and heat setting technique before being coated and finished with his signature additives like donuts or dump truck handles.
Part of the reason I adore Kent's work is his dedication to hand-made. Despite the volumes of work that he is faced with producing, he continues with his process. Hiring local artisans and college graduates to work in his shop and develop his web presence, Kent doing well is a great thing for little Rhody.
Additionally, the quality of Kent's work is impressive. I was blown away with my purchase. As a craftsman myself, I can be picky when it comes to the products I keep in my closet, often spending weeks at a time hunting for vintage designers to satisfy my need for quality. The finish of each piece, the piping, the handle, the clasp- all carefully considered and impeccably executed. I love the optional strap on my clutch, I'm a total ditz and can't risk leaving my clutch behind!
I styled my outfit around the pink frosting on my favorite Kent Stetson Bag. The high quality images of donuts are accented by the actual donut which acts as a handle for this incredible clutch. I'm wearing madewell denim and a madewell T. My fuzzy jacket is from Urban Outfitters, and my turban is of course, of my own making. Shop our turban selection by clicking the links.
The current selection of Kent Stetson donut bags can be found in his shop in Pawtucket, or check his current offerings here on his website!
Because of the handmade, limited quantities of his work, offerings will change from week to week- make your impulse purchases because if you pass up, your bag could be gone before you change your mind!
This dump truck bag pictured below is officially my next purchase. Kent photographed a local dump and printed it onto this adorable clutch. The clutch is accented by a (totally theme appropriate) toy dump truck. The bag is a more structured design than the cloth clutches, and is accented by a brass clasp and frame. This bag is only fitting for me because of my obsession with up-cycling. Xmas anyone? Please? So in love!
